i respect kovai ayoob very well. i listen almost every bayan from him. i am also an active tawheed jamath participator in sri lanka.
but i disagree with kovai ayoob in this taraweeh matter. Prophet prayed 13 is true. but that is his best. he does not limit his ummah a perticular number of rakah. only he told is pray 2×2. but end with an odd.
Alos, almost all of the scoloras from imama malik to sheik utaymeen (except sheik albani) have the openion that in the period of umar they prayed 20+3 rakah. so any one pray 23 rakah is also acceptable. because prophet sad, follow my sunnah and the sunnah of the rightly guided kalifas.
There is no history records that tells taraweeh has changed from 11 rakah to 23 under this ruler. coz it did not happen. if it has happend sure history will tell that. so from the time of umar it is prayed only 23 rakah.
so we tawheed followers should not fight with 23 rakah people to limit the taraweeh prayer to 11. it’s there choice. they simply follow umar who is a rightly guided kalifa. thats it.
please kindly referre to this beautiful fathwas for my point.
The Hadith of Aisha (May Allah pleased with her) that the Prophet did not pray more than eleven Rakah in Ramadan or in any other month does not prohibit praying more than the eleven Rakah. It informs us of the practice of the Prophet. And it is known through sound Ahadith that he used to prolong the standing, the bowing and, the prostration in prayer. This was his practice but as for his guidance to the Ummah he did not restrict them but he left them a free hand. He said, “The night prayer is two Rakah followed by two Rakah and so on”.
rahmath.
Imam Malik said: we would like to inform our brother that there is no Hadith indicating how many Rakah the Prophet prayed with people. What is proved is that he led them only twice in night prayer and when he saw a large number of companions gathering in the third night he did not pray that night and said: “I feared that the prayer might be enjoined on you”.
If the Imam is praying 20 (Twenty) Rakah in Taraweeh prayer, can I leave Jamaath after completing 8 (eight) Rakah or do I have to complete 20 (twenty) Rakah with Imam?
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
It is better for the one who prays with a congregation not to leave before his Imaam, for the Hadeeth narrated by At-Tirmithi from Abu Tharr may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “Whoever stays with his Imaam until the latter leaves, he is given the reward of a Qiyaam of a (whole) night”.
But whoever leaves before that, he does not commit anything bad because theTaraweeh prayer is Sunnah and not obligatory.
Allaah knows best.
Please don’t make any confuse , is there twenty rakayath or eight rakayath , it is sunnaa , so , if you like to continue after eight rakayath, or you can stop till eight rakayath, why we wast our time while fighting about this matter , we will try to understand ourself , we ought be unity , we are bros, we love between us , allahu forgive us , and follow the sunnaa, vasalam.
jazakallh………….
